FROM PARIS FRANCE .......... TO ASUNCION PARAGUAY

Quebracho is a young Paraguayan Society created in the early 80's. The ranching activity has been managed by a French family, which, eager to discover new horizons and a new activity , has not hesitated to leave the "Seine" river banks for the Paraguayan Northwest region called "The Chaco".

The Ranch, 10.000 acres, has been divided in 50 paddocks, from 100 acres to 700 acres for the largest one.

The pastures are pricipally made of Buffel Grass and Gatum Panic. These two grasses are at the moment the unique one's withstanding the hot and dry climate, as the salty, sandy and in some places clay soil.

50.000 gallons of water per day for the cattle can be obtained from 3 artesian wells 650' deep, drawn by diesel engine and air compressors. This water, slightly brackish, perfect for the cattle, is stored up in 5 towers and distributed through pipe-works and drinking-trough in each paddock all over the ranch. The staff collected rain-water for consuming.

Electricity can be produced with the help of an electric generator and to communicate between the Ranch and Asuncion a radio transceiver is necessary as any of the modern world commodities reach the region. These last years the ranch was equipped with a satellite phone for emergencies.

Based on its fantastic experience in introducing breeds like the Charolais, the Murray Grey and the British White cattle in the Chaco region of Paraguay and on its experience in multiple adapted crossbreeding in this so peculiar region, the part of the company that was related to livestock has just been transferred to a new company and Quebracho's principal activities are nowadays redirected and oriented towards the improvement of cattle genetic.
